WHITESNAKE's DAVID COVERDALE On Reunion Tour: 'I'm Not Trying To Recreate Anything'
November 22, 2002WHITESNAKE mainman David Coverdale has yet to reveal the lineup of musicians that will be joining him on the band's upcoming reunion tour, but according to the singer, they will bring their own style of playing to the group's unique brand of bluesy hard rock.
"I am not trying to recreate anything, or anybody's style with the musicians I will be working with in the new band," Coverdale said. "I feel it would be most unfair for me to invite a player into WHITESNAKE and then ask him to emulate or perform like someone else — I have never done this before, and I have no intentions of doing it now. The people I will be working with are exceptionally talented musicians, and will be bringing their own approach and sound to the music of WHITESNAKE. Their individual 'identity' is what has attracted me to work with them. Please remember that the majority of the players I have worked with over the years were not particularly well-known, with the exception of Jon [Lord], Ian [Paice] and Jimmy [Page]...until, that is, they were given the opportunity to present their talents to a global audience. It all comes down to giving people a chance to prove themselves, just as I was given when I was presented with the opportunity to join DEEP PURPLE (also, Jon Lord is irreplaceable, as you know, and I have never even considered trying to replace him, personally or musically)."
